Psalm 103:1 (ESV) … “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.”
What can we give God? The truth is not much. Can we offer Him our money? He can create galaxies of gold at a single word. Can we offer Him our service? He has angelic ministers of state far greater and more gifted than we that attend His throne. So, what can we offer Him?
The psalmist, David, informs us that we can bring Him thanksgiving and praise. In this Psalm, David counts off on his fingers as it were, five attributes for which the believer can offer praise as he or she comes before the Lord.
David is thankful for a Lord:
Who forgives in v. 3
Who heals in v. 3
Who redeems v. 4
Who crowns us with his love v. 4
Who satisfies us with good things v. 5
What can we give God? Our praise and thanksgiving. True praise comes from a grateful heart that sincerely wants to glorify and please the Lord. As David is advancing in years, his mind is fixed upon God. David sees all the things that God has done for him and breaks forth in song, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.”
Spend a few minutes today thinking of the blessings of God. Can’t think of one? If you have eyes to read this devotional, then start with that! Before long you will think of more and then, let your heart break forth in songs of praise and thanksgiving unto God.
