Galatians 1:3–5 (ESV) … “3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
I caught myself incessantly flipping through the TV channels the other night. After a while, having had enough of this, my wife said, “what are you looking for?” My reply, “I am looking for a news channel that only tells us the good news.” Now I don’t have to tell you what she said next, yep! “Good luck finding that channel.”
Let’s face it, we live in a world that has very little good news to share. Worse we live in a world that knows very little about peace. However, when we come to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, we get the very best news. We receive the Good News of how to obtain peace in our lives with ourselves, with others, and most importantly with the Heavenly Father.
From the Bible, we learn the bad news that our sins have put us at war with Holy God.
Because God is Holy, and we are not, and because His holiness demands payment for sins, we find ourselves in a battle we cannot win. Therefore, we discover our great need for a peace settlement with God. The Good News of the Gospel shares with us how we can obtain peace with God through the GRACE gift of Jesus Christ. Of course, you know with grace is, don’t you? GRACE … God’s Riches At Christ Expense.
The most excellent news we will ever hear, is that God has already dealt with our sin problem by giving Himself for on the Cross. When Christ was on the Cross, He was taking our place of Judgement. Moreover, His finish work “delivers us from this evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.”
In other words, we have been rescued from the enslaving power of sin. We are not only free from the future enslaving power of sin in judgment, but we are also free from the present enslaving power of sin in our daily performance. No longer are we controlled by the fleshly nature of our humanity, we have now received the divine life of Jesus to live in this present world, pleasing unto the Heavenly Father. That is why the Bible tells us as believers, “we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus our Lord.”
As you go forth today, go forth in the power and presence of Jesus, and don’t forget to share the Good-News that Jesus saves! The best way to thank Jesus for what He has given you is to share that Good-News with someone who has yet to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior!
