Slow to Hear the Testimony of God
Judges 5:3 (ESV) … “Hear, O kings; give ear, O princes; to the Lord I will sing; I will make melody to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
The desire of one giving testimony about God is that others pay attention and listen to the testimony. The psalm identifies the speaker, Deborah, she is pleading with others to hear her testimony. She is like the church today urging people to come to the services to hear God being praised.
It is significant that the ones exhorted to hear are those in high position. Those in high position are often the slowest about listening to the testimony about God, i.e. hearing what the preacher says or reading and studying the Bible.
The people today are not unlike the people of Israel when it comes to God’s call for service: some immediately volunteer and follow the Lord; some risk their lives; some give the call serious consideration but say no; and others keep to themselves as though the call had never been given.
We will either love Christ and walk in the light of His love, or we will be His enemy and perish in darkness. Let us know be slow to hear and believe in the testimony of God.
